For Families

Families are our most valued asset! We want to help Indiana families of children and young adults who are deafblind to build relationships with each other and families across the United States. Through these types of relationships, families can gain information, support, and the ability to make their voices heard at the local, state and national levels. Take some time to check out the information and resources that are specifically for families!

Register a Child

Although the main registry reporting activities are conducted one time per year (after the December 1 special education annual child count) a child may be added or removed from the Indiana DeafBlind Services Project Census at any time during the year. By reporting a child to the census, the child, his or her family and the educator/interventionist are eligible for services from the project free of charge. Interveners

The intervener helps the student gather information, learn concepts and skills, develop communication and language, and establish relationships that lead to greater independence. The intervener is a support person who does with, not for the student. Specialized training is needed to become an effective intervener and should address a wide range of topics necessary to understanding the nature and impact of deafblindness, the role of the intervener, and appropriate educational strategies to work with students with combined vision and hearing loss (Alsop, Killoran, Robinson, Durkel, & Prouty, 2004; McGinnes, 1986; Robinson et al., 2000).
