Family Fun and Learning Series for Families of Children who are Deafblind

Join us for some Fam-tastic Fun by participating in a special series of virtual family events created just for families of children who are deafblind! These events combine fun, connection, and learning — while supporting literacy through experience books that you can make and share with your child.

What’s Happening?

Every 4-6 weeks, the deafblind project will host a virtual event for your whole family to participate in with other families across the state. Before each event all materials and instructions for participating will be sent to your home. The events are listed below:

Family Scavenger Hunt – November 11, 2025, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm:  Work together to find items around your home that answer the provided questions! Surprise prizes for most unique or descriptive items! This is a fun way to introduce you and your family to others!

Virtual Movie Night – December 16, 2025, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm: Cozy up with your family and enjoy a captioned and visually described film together. Movie snacks and props will be provided, and students will be encouraged to share what they thought of the movie.

Family Craft Night – January 27, 2026, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Get creative with a simple, hands-on project that everyone can share.

Night at the Virtual Circus – March 10, 2026, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Step right up for games, laughter, and surprises! A fully accessible virtual circus will be aired. You can indulge in circus treats and share your family’s own circus act.

Virtual Cooking Class – April 21, 2026, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Cook along with us and enjoy a family-friendly recipe. A start on you family cookbook and ideas for making the kitchen more accessible for your child who is deafblind will be included.

Indianapolis Zoo – May 23, 2026, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm: Join us for a trip to the zoo!  All participating families will meet at the zoo for some time to learn, lunch and then free time to see the animals and ride the rides with your family and others!

Each activity comes with a book about the topic or materials to create your own Experience Book on the activity.  This is a fun way to support your child’s communication and literacy, as well as capturing shared family memories.

Why Should You Join?

You will have an opportunity to have a lot of fun with your whole family.  In addition, there are other specific benefits for everyone in your family for participating in FamFest 2025-26.  You and your whole family will:

• Connect with other families of children who are deafblind.
• Build literacy and communication skills through play.
• Enjoy inclusive activities the whole family can sare.
• End the series with an opportunity to meet in-person and enjoy the Indianapolis Zoo in the spring!

How to Participate

• All but the final event are virtual (via Zoom).
• All activities (including the zoo) are provided at no cost to the families participating.
• Materials and instructions for crafts, cooking, and experience books will be provided.
• Families can join one or two events — but we encourage you to come to them all!

Registration:  There is no cost, however, registration is required.

Any special accommodations must be requested at least 10 days before the start of the event.
